Why You Should Start Blending Coconut Oil Into Your Coffee
Sit tight friends because we’re here to share our latest addiction…. blending coconut oil into our coffee. This stems from the latest trend- blending grass fed butter and/or coconut oil in your coffee (just google “bullet proof coffee” to see what we mean). Because we conveniently just happened to have some coconut oil kicking around, we opted to go the coconut oil route instead.
We tentatively tried it out and were so pleasantly surprised. We know it might sound strange but we promise you it tastes delicious. Plus, it comes with three added health benefits that you won’t be able to resist.
It Will Speed Up Your Metabolism
First of all, coconut oil speeds up your metabolism. Coconut oil contains MCT’s (Medium Chain Triglycerides) which when consumed, instead of being stored as fat, they are used immediately and are converted into energy. Medium chain fats are shorter than others and are easier for the body to break down and use right away. Not only will they help you to maintain a healthy weight because they help you feel fuller, but they will increase your metabolic function and eat away at that stubborn belly fat we all hate.
It Will Improve Your Immune System
Secondly, it will help improve your immune system. About 50% of the fats found in coconut oil are made up of lauric acid which has amazing anti-microbial properties. This means ingesting it will help your body fight off common infections such as the common cold and influenza virus. This is the same as the lauric acid that is actually found in breast milk to help newborn babies’ immune system strengthen and fight off the flu and other viruses. Pretty neat hey?
It Will Help Increase Energy
Finally, coconut oil helps increase energy! This goes back to the MCT’s found in coconut oil. Due to the fact they can be absorbed immediately by the body, when consumed they will give you an immediate burst of energy. Combine that with your coffee and you'll be feeling perky in no time!
This may seem straight forward, but the key is to blend the coconut oil into your coffee. This seems to really help the coconut oil fully mix with the coffee, creating a frothy cup of deliciousness.
2 cups hot brewed coffee
1 tablespoon coconut oil (use regular or one of our sachets for a delicious mint flavour!)
Add ingredients to blender and blend for 15-30 seconds. Serve hot and enjoy!
Have you tried this at home already? What did you think of it? Are you as addicted as we are or remaining faithful to your regular morning coffee?
