A Beginner's Guide To Oil Pulling

If you haven’t tried oil pulling yet, you really should. Seriously, get on it! Oil pulling is not only an easy and all-natural way to get whiter teeth and fresher breath, but it comes with a variety of other health benefits

We will be the first to admit, oil pulling can be a bit tough to get into at first. If you haven’t swirled oil around in your mouth before, the sensation can be a little strange the first couple of times you try it. But, once you get used to it, oil pulling quickly becomes easier and you will soon find it relaxing, therapeutic and extremely beneficial for your health.

We’ve rounded up a few tips and tricks to make your transition into an expert oil puller a little easier. Keep reading below to find out a few ways on how to properly oil pull, which will help to make oil pulling with Coco Rinse a favourite part of your morning routine in no time!

1. Warm up the oil to liquefy it first

If you’re storing your Coco Rinse sachets in a cold area, the coconut oil will turn into a solid form. Run your sachet of Coco Rinse under hot water first to liquefy the coconut oil so you can start swirling with it in liquid form right away. This way you won’t have to wait for the coconut oil to start dissolving in your mouth which can be an odd sensation.

2. Work your way up to a full sachet

We made sure our sachets contain enough coconut oil for anyone to use. However, we recommend starting with about a half a sachet to three-quarters of a sachet and working your way up to a full sachet as you get more comfortable with oil pulling. If you start with too much oil in the beginning, it can make it more difficult to swirl the oil in your mouth properly.

3. Start with five minutes and work your way up to ten or twenty minutes

When you first try oil pulling, swirl for as long as you can and then work your way up. If you can only do five minutes at first, that’s no problem. Just continue to work your way up to twenty minutes to reap the full benefits of oil pulling.

4. Use our flavoured coconut oil

We’ve come up with our own perfect mint flavour to make oil pulling more exciting, tastier and even easier than ever before! Our coconut oil is lightly infused with organic peppermint flavour, leaving a minty fresh taste in your mouth after you finish rinsing.

5. Keep busy while oil pulling

Time will fly by if you keep busy while you oil pull. Just because you’re oil pulling doesn’t mean that you can’t go about your regular morning routine. You can oil pull while you’re in the shower, making breakfast, checking emails, doing your makeup, or getting ready for work. Or, you can just sit back and relax while oil pulling. Many of our customers find it quite relaxing!

6. Don't swirl aggressively

Your mouth or jaw shouldn't hurt after oil pulling. You really don't need to be too aggressive with your swirling motion. Just lightly swirl and swish the oil around your mouth in a relaxed manner.

7. Spit out the oil into a trash can

Make sure after you finish oil pulling, that you spit the oil out into a trash can rather than into the sink. The coconut oil can harden in cold climates or under cold water and clog your pipes.

8. Brush and floss immediately afterwards

Oil pulling will help to loosen up and cut down the plaque and tartar that builds up on your teeth over time. The motion of brushing your teeth will help to remove loosened plaque, while flossing will help to pull out the plaque between your teeth.
